ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A school employee was arrested earlier this week after allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old student in his office.

According to WESH-TV, Cameron Burke, a computer technician at Oak Ridge High School, met the student while she was a freshman at the school. The victim reportedly told authorities she was helping the suspect with computers, and while in an elevator, he allegedly said he liked her. Burke reportedly kissed her after confessing his feelings.

According to WKMG-TV, Burke continued to pursue the inappropriate relationship with the student from June 2020 to May 2021. The victim reportedly told authorities that Burke flirted with her at first, but nothing physical occurred until the fall of 2020.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department told WKMG Burke had sex with the victim in his office, classroom and truck, against the victim’s wishes. Burke allegedly had sex with the victim approximately 25 to 30 times.

According to WESH, the victim told authorities she did not say no because she felt like she couldn’t, as he was a teacher and 40 years old.

Eventually, the victim alerted officials and showed text messages between her and Burke. In a text response to the victim, Burke reportedly wrote, "I’m sorry if I ever did anything to you. Not my intentions. Certain mistakes will never be made again. Not with you or anyone else."

According to WESH, deputies interviewed Burke. He reportedly denied having sex with the student at first and told authorities he was a computer tech who also taught throughout the day. According to WKMG, deputies showed Burke the text messages, and he eventually admitted to having sex with the victim.

Burke was reportedly arrested and charged with sexual battery with a child/custodial, and authority figure soliciting or engaging in sexual conduct with a student.

The school district shared a statement with WKMG, "Cameron Burke is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. During the investigation he will not be allowed on any campus including Oak Ridge High School. We take all allegations very seriously and we are working with law enforcement."

The school district went on to say, "Although the district does not comment on personnel matters all details into the investigation will be available in his Professional Standards file which will be available as a public record 10 days after the case is closed. His position is Technology Support Representative."
